Will paper ballots and a record turnout cause a delay in reporting the winners of the state primaries Tuesday?
A Union County lawsuit, which challenged Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner’s order that paper ballots be made available to voters who want them, was thrown out when a judge ruled the Union County Commissioners did not have the authority to file a lawsuit.
This means 53 counties, including all central Ohio counties, will have to count both electronic and paper ballots.
Brunner has predicted 52 percent of registered voters will turn out for the presidential primary, with 450,000 expected in Cuyahoga County, which has suffered several problems on election night, preventing final results from being released, including two years ago in state wide elections.
Cuyahoga has 14% of all registered Ohio voters, meaning if the primaries are close, projections can’t take place until Cuyahoga is counted.
Polls open across the state at 6:30 AM and stay open until 7:30 PM. Voters are reminded to bring proper identification.
