Computer Glitch Halts BMV Offices 05-23-2008

A system wide computer outage kept the state's Bureau of Motor Vehicles from issuing driver licenses and vehicle registrations for about five hours.

The problem on Wednesday meant customers were turned away at all 217 of Ohio's deputy registrar agencies.

Ohio Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lindsay Komlanc says the system was working again by 3 p.m., but was slower than normal. She says it's not clear what caused the glitch.

The BMV warned of the possibility of more problems on Thursday, but the systems seemed to be back in working order.
