Grant To Expand MTC Nursing Program 08-19-2009

Marion Technical College Nursing Department has been selected by the Ohio Board of Nursing to receive a prelicense RN Nurse Education Grant Program award of $200,000.00 for the grant period September 1, 2009 to August 31, 2011.

The grant will be used to hire two, new, full-time faculty at Marion Technical College. The goal is to increase the transitional program of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s) into the Registered Nurse (RN) program and produce more graduates at a faster pace. Adding two faculty members to the full-time staff will double the capacity of LPN transition students to 32 per year.

MTC does not have an LPN program, but is a choice for students from other locations to transfer their LPN to an RN.

“We get LPN’s from all over the state for this program. Tri-Rivers produces several for us along with Columbus State, North Central State, and Rhodes State,” Carol Hoffman, Dean of Nursing said. “With the addition of two more faculty, we can really put out more quality graduates in less time and fill the job needs in the community,” she added.

MTC’s RN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) which allows graduates to transfer to any college if their goal is to continue their education in nursing.

Marion Technical College was able to apply for the grant because of their partnership with Marion General Hospital. Hiring for the two nursing faculty is going on this month. Details about the position can be found at www.mtc.edu/Employment.
