Marion Technical College is now accepting applications for the Marion Law Enforcement Academy.

The Academy will begin on December 7, 2009 and run through June 11, 2010. The application deadline is October 30, 2009. Application packets can be obtained online at www.mtc.edu/PublicService, or in the Marion Technical College’s admissions office (Technical Education Building) or by calling 740-389-4636 ext. 273.

The Marion Law Enforcement Academy consists of 598 hours of required training that covers administration, law, human relations, firearms, driving, investigation, traffic accident investigation, patrol, traffic enforcement, civil disorders, unarmed self-defense, prisoner booking and handling, commercial vehicle inspection, and first aid.

The Marion Law Enforcement Academy utilizes the expertise of full-time MTC faculty and a rotation of more than 20 law enforcement personnel from a multi-county area to instruct Academy courses. Each Academy instructor is OPOTA certified in one or more specific areas of law enforcement.

The curriculum of the Marion Law Enforcement Academy is routinely updated to meet all Ohio Peace Officer Training Council (OPOTC) training requirements.

Students may take the Academy as a stand-alone training block or apply the credits toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice, or Peace Officer option.

For more information about the Marion Law Enforcement Academy, call Bobbie Williams at 740-389-4636 ext. 273 or go to www.mtc.edu.

This is a limited enrollment program and applicants must meet certain criteria before being accepted.
