Two product recalls could affect area residents. Maclaren USA is recalling about one million strollers sold in the United States over the past decade after receiving a dozen reports of children's fingers being amputated when caught in the stroller's hinges. The recall involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers sold in the United States starting in 1999. Maclaren said it has received 15 reports of children placing their finger in the stroller's hinge mechanism, which led to 12 reported fingertip amputations in the United States. The company is offering a free repair kit. The well-known strollers, priced from $100 to $360, were sold at stores including Babies "R" Us and Target. Consumers should contact Maclaren at (877) 688-2326 or through the web site http://www.maclaren.us/recall for more information. Additionally, the Nokia Corp. announced today that some 14 million mobile-phone chargers could be dangerous for users and said it will replace them free of charge. The chargers, bearing Nokia's name and made by Chinese battery and auto part maker BYD Co., are models AC-3E and AC-3U, made between June 15 and Aug. 9 this year; and AC-4U, manufactured between April 13 and Oct. 25, 2009. They were mostly sold in Europe and North America. Nokia said the chargers' plastic covers might work loose and expose wiring, which could cause an electric shock if touched, if the charger is plugged into a socket. It said it had received no reports of injuries or accidents related to the chargers. Visit chargerexchange.nokia.com for more information on receiving a new charger. | ||
