WHERE ARE YOU GOING AND HOW WILL YOU GET THERE?

Welcome to the new millennium!  What goals and ambitions do you have for the future? Where do you want to go with your life as you enter a new year?  One thing is for sure...you cannot plan your trip until you know where you are going.

If you don't do some planning and goal setting for the future, you will probably end of somewhere other than where you would like to be.  Most people spend more time planning their vacations than their careers?

Goal setting is a way to get things done, to change, or to become the kind of person you want to be.  Everyone has the same amount of time.  Some master time rather than letting it master them.  In order to do anything well, it takes time.  Goals keep you from wasting time.  In order to  do anything well, it takes planning and time.  Goals help you make decisions, avoid mistakes, control stress, and measure progress.

Goal setting involves three basic ranges...long, medium, and short range goals.  Long-range goals are those concerned with the overall style of life that you want to live, the type of job/career you desire, and the general situation that you wish to live in.

Medium range goals involve the strategies of how to achieve the long-range goals.  For example, a medium range goal could be attending a technical college to obtain the skills necessary to enter into your career choice.  This may take anywhere from 2-5 years.

Short range goals cover the present to one year time frame.  These goals are meant to be smaller, easily achievable ones that will lead you to meeting your medium and long range goals.

For example, completing a computer class will lead to completing your overall educational goal.     Your goals should be measurable, achievable, personal, and simple to understand.  Achieving goals gives you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction and encourages you to further goal setting.  Why not take a few minutes right now to set some goals for your future.   You will be glad you did!
