Happy June from the Bucyrus Public Library!

Well, summer vacation is here before we knew it!The Bucyrus Public Library has some great programs going on this summer for all ages!

After Memorial Day, the library's hours have changed and patrons will want to make note of that. The library closes at 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday instead of 9:00 p.m.Friday and Saturday hours stay the same, and the library is now closed on Sundays.

The Library's popular "Surfin' for Seniors" computer class has graduated yet another group of students! The last classes were held at the end of May after a break for the Memorial Day weekend.Stay tuned for word on when these classes will begin again in the fall! They are comprised of classes on using the mouse, the World Wide Web and how to do email, and setting up an email account for each student.

The Bucyrus Public Library will be participating in Children's Fun Day at the Fairgrounds on June 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Stop by our table to meet our mascot and pick up some goodies! There will be games, crafts, snacks, drawings, and more from participating agencies!

The Library's summer story hours will be beginning the week of June 11th.  Story hours are held on Monday nights from 7:00-7:45 p.m., Tuesday mornings from 10:30-11:00 a.m. and Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Snack-and-Play times are held once per month, as are craft days. This summer, the Library is again offering a "read-to-me" preschool reading program to go along with the story hours. Since the theme of the K-6 group this summer is multicultural/geography/travel oriented, so is the preschool theme with "Read Around the World" as the slogan. As part of the six-week story hour program, six different countries will be visited:Germany, France, Africa, Australia, Japan, and Mexico. Countries visited during the
month of June will be Australia, Germany, and Japan! Stories will be shared from those countries, as well as songs, language, and fingerplays. As part of the preschool story hour, participants will be invited to participate in a "read-to-me" reading program that will allow parent and child time to read together. They will be asked to read 10 books per week for the six-week run of the program. At each 10 book increment, the child will be allowed to pick a prize from the "treasure chest". Once the 60 book goal is completed, the child will receive a coupon for a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut.There is no preregistration for any of the story hour sessions. For more information, please call Barb Scott, Children's Librarian, at 562-7327!

Each year the State Library of Ohio sponsors a summer reading program for children in grades K-6, and each year, there is a different theme that is used. For 2001, that theme is "Where in the World Are You Reading?"All area school schools were either visited for assemblies or to drop off bookmarks to be taken home.Sign up for the K-6 program began on May 29th, and will continue for the run of the program. All reading done for the program is done on the participant's own, at home.Children will be asked to fill out reading contracts as to how many books they think they can read during the duration of the program. Those successfully completing their contracts will have their names entered into a final drawing for savings bonds, courtesy of Wendy's of Bucyrus, and book prizes provided by the Friends of the Library.Participants will also receive, as part of their sign-up packs, a punch card which is the way they earn coupons. Each time the library is visited or a program is attended, a punch is received. Every three punches earns coupons from area fast food establishments.Lots of great performers are on tap for this summer, also.
