Happy April from the Bucyrus Public Library!

The month of April brings all sorts of fun programming at the Bucyrus Public 
Library.We have programs for patrons of all ages happening this month!

Public Relations Co-ordinator Brenda Crider has lined up some great programs 
for adults and families.Ken Hammontree, popular performer, will be 
returning to the libraryon April 16th at 7:00 p.m. to portray Dwight D. 
Eisenhower.Mr. Hammontree will come in full dress and will be speaking on 
Eisenhower's political life and war strategies.This program is 
co-sponsored by the library and the Friends of the Bucyrus Public Library.

Also in April, Jerry Volkmer and Mark Yosick will return to the library for 
our annual Antique Appraisal Clinic.This is scheduled for Saturday, April 
20, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Patricipants may bring in up to three 
items to have appraised.

The Friends of the Library will be holding a Book Sale in April.The 
Friends will be having their preview sale April 17th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. 
The regular sale will run April 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., April 
19th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and April 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 
p.m.Lots of great used and gently read books will be available for sale!

National Library Week will be held April 14th through the 20th this year. 
To celebrate, the library is having a Canned Goods Week.During this week, 
patrons can bring in canned goods for the Salvation Army. If you have any 
overdue materials, those can be returned this week and fines will be waived 
if you bring in canned goods for the barrel. Canned Goods Week will begin 
April 14th and run through the 20th.To have fines waived, books and canned 
goods must be brought to the circulation desk.They cannot be put in the 
bookdrop.

Stop by the circulation desk, fill out a survey and get a ticket for a 
chance to win a computer!The library values your opinion, and will be 
putting together a long-range plan for the future of library services.The 
computer will be drawn for on May 8th, 2002.You may fill out a survey 
without getting a ticket.

The Teen Advisory Board held their monthly meeting last week at the library. 
Last month, the teens travelled to Barnes and Noble bookstore in Mansfield 
to purchase books for the library's Young Adult collection. They also 
enjoyed lunch at Fazoli's before returning.The Board meets on the first 
Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.Students in grades 7 through 12 from 
area high schools are invited to attend.

In April, the teens will be holding a book discussion of one of the works of 
Avi, a young adult and children's author.Avi will be at the library on 
Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the library's Community Room.He will 
be talking about his works and autographing copies of his books.These 
books will be available for purchase that evening.Avi comes to the library 
as part of the Ohio Library Foundation Drew Carey Grant.The library was 
awarded $10,000.00 to bring Young Adult authors to the library and area 
schools.The public is invited to this program.

Preschool story hours continue at the library throughout the month of April. 
Themes for the remainder of the month are rain, astronomy, and our annual 
un-birthday party.There is no preregistration required.Story hours 
consist of books, songs, games, and rhymes of a theme each week.For more

Hank the Cowdog is coming to Bucyrus Public Library!On April 27th, the 
library will host a Hank the Cowdog program, with a special appearance by 
Hank himself!This program will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the 
library's community room.There will be games, crafts, and refreshments.

Summer will be here before we know it and the library is busy planning 
summer reading programs for adults, teens, children, and preschoolers!
The adult theme this year will be "Beat the Heat, READ!".The teens will be 
having an out-of-this world theme with "READ...and the Force will be with 
You!".For preschoolers and grades K-6, the theme this year is "Your 
Library...The Greatest Show in Town", with a circus theme.
