Happy
March from the Bucyrus Public Library!
It's hard to believe that it's March and that spring will soon
be here!
Everyone at the library is working hard to provide programming
for all ages.
What you will find below is just a sampling of what is in store
for you
this month at the library:
The Teen Advisory Board will have their regular meeting the
first Tuesday of
March (the 5th). The group recently held a coffeehouse in the
library's
Community Room and shared poetry, songs, stories and more, with,
of course,
refreshments.
In March, the teens will be traveling to Barnes and Noble
bookstore in
Mansfield on the 9th. They will be able to purchase books for
the Young
Adult collection at the library. They will also enjoy lunch
before
returning to the library.
Plans are in the works for either another coffeehouse or a
mystery evening
program in March. Watch for more on these!
For more information about any Young Adult program, please
contact Andrea
Schimpf, Young Adult librarian, at 419-562-7327.
The Children's Department of the library is continuing the
winter/spring
session of story hours. Story hours are held on Monday nights
from
7:00-7:45 p.m., Tuesday mornings from 10:30-11:00 a.m., amd
Thursday
mornings from 10:30-11:15. Craft days are held one time per
month, as are
snack-and-play days. This current session runs until the end of
April.
Upcoming themes are kites, rain, St. Patrick's Day and Easter,
April Fool,
astronomy, and our annual un-birthday party to end up the
session. There is
no pre-registration required for story hour.
Children's Librarian Barb Scott recently held a well-attended
Mardi Gras
party at the library. Check out our site at
www.bucyrus.lib.oh.us
for
pictures of all the fun we had!
In March, the children's special program will be a Captain
Underpants party!
This party will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 2:00 p.m. in
the
library's community room. Captain Underpants is the superheo in
children's
author Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants series. Dav is from Ohio
and is a
graduate of Kent State University. His books center around two
fourth grade
boys who always get into mischief. Their hero is Captain
Underpants, who is
actually their hypnotized principal in disguise. There will be
fun, games,
and refreshments! Space is limited to 50 participants, and you
can register
by calling the library at 419-562-7327.
Upcoming for April will be a Hank the Cowdog party, with a
special
appearance by Hank himself! For more information on story hour
or any of the
special programs, contact Children's Librarian Barb Scott at
419-562-7327.
The library recently held a Love Your Library contest.
Participants had to
write a paragraph or two telling why they loved the library or
telling how
the library had made a difference in their lives. Three
catagories were set
up: Adult, Young Adult, and K-6. Winners of the first place
works were:
Amy Hawkins (Adult); Keri Agriesti (Young Adult) and Taylor
Crider (K-6).
First prize winners received a $10.00 Barnes and Noble gift
certificate.
2nd and 3rd prizes were also awarded.
Check us out for an afternoon of fun for the Open Book
Historical Society on
March 9th at 1:00 p.m. Members of the Society will dress in
medieval
clothing and talk about the history of that period. They will
dress audience
volunteers and answer questions.
Carol Starre-Kmiecik will return to the library on March 12th at
7:00 p.m.
to portray former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Carol
will bring
Jackie to life as she recalls prominent momets and stories about
her life.
This is one program you will not want to miss!
In March, the library will be sponsoring a series of genealogy
workshops.
These will be held on Mondays, March 11, 18, and 25, at 7:00
p.m. Richland
County genealogist and historian Peggy Lauritzan will be
conducting the
first two sessions (Beginning Genealogy and More and The Records
of the
WPA). The third session will be presented by members of the
Crawford County
Genealogical society and Bucyrus Public Library staff members.
They will
speak on library resources and internet sources. The library
asks that you
preregister for these programs by calling the library at
419-562-7327.
For any questions on adult programs at the library, please
contact Brenda
Crider, Public Relations Co-ordinator at 419-562-7327.
The library will be closed on Easter Sunday, March 31st. Please
plan your
needs accordingly.
