Happy May from the Bucyrus Public Library!
The month of April was a busy one for us here at the Bucyrus Public Library!
Lots of programming yielded some great programs and attendance!The
highlight of our month was having Newbery award-winning author Avi as our
guest as part of the Drew Carey Grant.Avi spoke both at the library and at
area schools as part of his visit here.
The month of May lets us know that summer reading programs are just around
the corner!This summer, all age groups will be represented with the new
Adult reading program being added this year.The preschool and gradeschool
age children will be participating in a program with the slogan "Your
Library:The Greatest Show in Town" with a circus theme.The Young Adults
have an out-of-this-world program with "READ...and the Force will be with
you" with a Star Wars theme.The Adult group will have the theme "Beat the
Heat...READ!"Signups for the adult, YA, and schoolage groups will begin on
June 1st.Sign up for the preschool group will begin on June 10th.
Speaking of preschoolers, our preschool story hours will be taking a break
during the month of June, to allow Children's Librarian Barb Scott to
prepare for the summer programs.Story hours will resume on June 10th, and
run through the month of July.All sessions will have circus themes
(elephants, big cats, circus food, acrobats/highwire, clowns, and circus
train).There will be special guessing game counting jars each week with an
item related to the theme to guess.
The Teen Advisory Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on May 7th in
the library's Community Room.This group is composed of teens from area
high schools.New members are welcome to attend at any time.
The library will be closed on May 9th so that all staff members may attend
an all-day inservice meeting in Columbus.Please plan you needs
accordingly.
On May 25th, the library will be holding at Ellison Die Workshop.Letters
were sent out to all area schools encouraging them to bring their dies in
for a day of sharing with other schools, teachers, teaching professionals.
This event will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in the library's Community Room.
Memorial Day is May 27th and the library will be closed for the holiday.
The Teen Advisory Board will hold a Star Wars Lock-In on May 31st-June 1.
The lock-in begins on May 31st at 8:00 p.m. and participants must be picked
up by 8:00 a.m. on June 1st.
Two drawings will be held during May.The first will be held on May 8th for
the computer that the library is giving away.As part of getting a pulse on
public opinion, the library has been taking a survey of patrons.As part of
the survey, the public can receive a ticket for a chance to win the
computer.
The Friends of the Library will also be holding a drawing for a "Renew You"
basket.This basket contains products and coupons good for haircut,
tanning, make-up, and much more.It's a $250.00 value basket.Tickets may
be purchased for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.Drawing will be held on May
11th.
