Students "Go Digital" with New Bachelors Degree

With the explosive growth of the Internet, electronic commerce, and
digital communication, successful businesses are looking for employees who
understand current and future trends in digital communication and
electronic commerce, and are prepared to offer challenging work
environments and outstanding pay. Marion Technical College (MTC) and
Franklin University's Community College Alliance (CCA) Program are
positioned to take advantage of these opportunities with a new bachelor's
degree completion option that will prepare students to be leaders in the
digital age.
Since 1998, the two schools have partnered in a bachelor's degree
completion program that combines on-campus local courses at MTC with
online courses from Franklin University. The new degree, Digital
Communication, will provide graduates with skills in web development,
marketing, graphics design, and electronic commerce systems, as well as
knowledge of the technology of databases, user interface design,
networking and management information systems.

New
Business Degree Available through Marion Campus
August 1
Students who seek the prestige of an Ohio State University business degree
but do not have time to commute to Columbus to take classes can now
complete all 4 years of their degree at Marion. According to a press
release, OSUM, in cooperation with OSU's Fisher College of Business, is
launching a new undergraduate general business major beginning in
September.The new program offers business courses which have been
tailored to meet the needs of students who already
hold positions in Ohio's small and mid-sized firms, as
well as for those who aspire to careers in business.
The business degree's curriculum blends distance
learning technologies with traditional classroom
instruction taught by Ohio State's faculty. To learn

Board Approves
Contracts
July 31
The Crestline School Board of Education approved
contracts for 2 improvement projects Monday evening. According to
Anchor Broadcasting, the Board
approved the hiring of a Mansfield company for the design of repairs at Hutson
Stadium at a cost of $4,100. Another contract that will make
concrete repairs to the stadium at a cost of over $38,000 was also
approved. A Crestline-area construction company will be working on
paving and garage projects for just over $79,000.
Crestline Woman Joins OSUM Board of Trustees
July 31
Three new faces recently joined the Board of Trustees for the Ohio State
University at Marion campus, including a woman from Crestline.
According to a press release, Janet Pry, Executive Director of the
Bucyrus Area Community Foundation and co-owner of ACS Title & Closing
Services, joins Douglas W. Brown, Marketing Manager for Wyandot, Inc.,
and Student Representative Carrol Heimlich, a senior at OSU Marion and a
maintenance technician at Whirlpool Corporation.
Pry’s professional life is spent in 2 main arena:
she serves part-time as Executive Director of the Bucyrus Area Community
Foundation and also is a co-owner of ACS Title & Closing Services with
offices in Bucyrus and Marion. Pry’s past community activities include
involvement with the Bucyrus Area YMCA, Rotary Club, United Way, and the
Mansfield Discovery School’s Board of Trustees.
The 11-member Board of Trustees, along with F.
Dominic Dottavio, Dean and Director, administer the Marion Campus.
Ohio State Marion serves the residents of north central Ohio, including
Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Marion, Morrow, Union, and Wyandot counties.
MTC Sets
Early Registration Dates
July 30
Are you a recent high school graduate ready to embark on your first
career? Or do you need to gain some new skills to try for a promotion -
or even a whole new career direction? Students new to college-level
responsibilities can learn a great deal through the Early Registration
process at Marion Technical College (MTC). Even though Fall
Quarter classes do not begin until Wednesday, September 19, MTC
admission and registration personnel are hard at work helping new (and
returning) students make educated choices about their career options.
Early registration gives students the greatest chance of securing a
class schedule that works well with their work and family
responsibilities. Individuals can also take advantage of "one-stop"
convenience by meeting with college counselors and advisors to discuss
admission procedures, financial aid, class registration, and MTC's more
than 30 two-year associate degree and one-year certificate programs in
Business, Health, Engineering, Information and Public Service
Technologies.

Wynford Saying Good-Bye to Barr,
Searching for Replacement
July 27
The Wynford School District is hosting a reception Sunday for outgoing
superintendent Chuck Barr. Barr recently accepted the position of
superintendent at Tri-Rivers in Marion. He will assume the
position beginning August 1. The reception is scheduled for 3-4:30p.m.
in the Wynford High School cafeteria. The community is welcome to
attend.
The Wynford school superintendent opening
is being formally announced Friday. According to Anchor Broadcasting, the
Mid Ohio Educational Service Center is helping the district find a
replacement and is sending out brochures advertising the position to all
Ohio school districts. Wynford hopes to have the
superintendent's search done by the end of September. Board of Education
member Ron Hoepf says Wynford will soon begin selecting community
members to serve on a superintendent search committee.
City
School Special Education
July 27
The Bucyrus City Schools, which has recently applied for grants to
improve the special education program, will be receiving $181,208.31
from the Ohio Department of Education. This money is planned to be used
to train teachers, purchase supplies, and provide support services for
special education students.
Community residents are encouraged for
their input on what the money should be used for. For more information

College
Connection Receives Grant
July 26
The Crawford College Connection has received a
financial boost from a Cincinnati organization. As reported by
Anchor Broadcasting, the local organization has received a $30,000 grant
which will enable it to provide more resources for area students including
a website, advising, and financial aid.
The Crawford College
Connection is a newly formed, non-profit organization
that provides grant monies to Crawford County students
for a post secondary education. The group
awarded its first round of grants to area students in
May.
Medical
Lab Program Joins Online Collaboration
July 26
Technology has certainly changed the face of education, and students in
the Medical Laboratory Technology program at Marion Technical College (MTC)
and two other two-year colleges are enjoying the flexibility that
technology has to offer through online lectures.
With this format, students access a variety
of online resources, including lecture notes, self-assessment exercises,
handouts, course announcements, syllabus information, and links to related
health care sites and information. On-site lab time is then focused on
quick review of the lecture material and more intense application of the
outlined skills and procedures.
